"I'll Dream In Melody"

I got a babysitting job last week and instead of being responsible and saving the money, I decided to preorder both of these!

  • Thrice - Anthology

This is a live album from their farewell tour earlier this year. I’m really hoping at least one song is from the show I went to, but either way, it’s gonna be great because Thrice is just an incredibly awesome live band anyway. Also, I just got the 2-CD version because $60 is just too much for vinyl to me.

  • Anberlin - Vital

I was debating whether or not to get the vinyl for this. I ordered it from Amazon because I’m guessing it was sold out on their website, I couldn’t find it. I don’t know if it’s going to be the two 10” vinyl or if it’s different through Amazon. Whatever. Listen to their new song Self-Starter. I was hooked after first listen. Really excited about this album.

New Vinyl:

  • The Dangerous Summer - Reach For The Sun
  • Portugal. The Man - In The Mountain In The Cloud

Sometimes I complain that people don’t post enough “original” content on tumblr and then I end up just reblogging a bunch of stuff myself. I tried to keep up with sharing my ever-growing music collection, but it’s too difficult with all the CDs I find. However, I’ve decided to stick with just my record collection because it’s smaller.

These two records were a belated graduation gift from my friend Brooke that she gave me a few months ago. She didn’t have to but she also got me a rad Thrice t-shirt. These are the first white vinyl I have in my collection now too. Vinyl is cool. I’m planning on driving up to Amoeba in Hollywood on Saturday for Record Store Day too… I need more!

NEW VINYLS:

  • Into It. Over It. - Twelve Towns [2011]
  • The Dangerous Summer - War Paint [2011]

My very nice friend Kelsey got me these for a belated graduation gift. I didn’t tell her before but I have been into Hot Topic and held that Twelve Towns LP in my hands probably about 3 times, almost buying it. The Dangerous Summer was a bonus, I totally regretted not ordering this vinyl when it was coming out and almost ordered it a couple times too. She really couldn’t have picked better albums! Thank you (again) Kelsey! :D

I’m BACK!

Hi everyone, I recently went on a road trip to San Francisco with my mom, stepsister and best friend. Aside from other things, I went to a few record stores. I’ll share them with you now.

1. Amoeba Music, San Francisco

Just like the one in Hollywood, it’s basically the biggest record store I’ve ever been too. Despite looking through the vinyls, I voted on getting like 6 used CDs instead of one vinyl. I hate spending too much money and I’d rather get more from it, you know what I mean? Anyways, I could have spent all day in there but not everyone shares my enthusiasm for sifting through rows and rows of music. I settled for the Jimmy Eat World, Get Up Kids, Radiohead, and Elliot Smith CDs I found.

2. Black Pancake Records, San Francisco

This place had a cool “underground” vibe to it but not the hugest selection. I think it may have just opened not long before. I didn’t get anything here and probably because I didn’t know a lot of it. These kind of places make me want to go home and do some research (and by research I mean listen to older music).

3. Rasputin Records, San Francisco (picture from Google)

This place was pretty big. It had about 5 floors I think and you had to take an elevator from the 2nd floor to go any higher. The 4th floor had the clearance CDs, I was looking for and I found quite a bit and so did my mother! It had a more classic record store appeal with the personalized recommendations found on different band labels. That was nice of them…

4. Warbler Records and Goods, Santa Barbara (picture from flickr)

I really liked this place. You could tell that they carried only music that they wanted to. However, once again I’m feeling stupid because I don’t know enough about this music. There’s all this stuff I know of but I don’t really know it. It’s OK though because it reminds me of music I need to look into more.

5. Just Play Music, Santa Barbara (can’t find a picture)

I can’t say I was too impressed with this place. All the used CDs were sealed and you couldn’t check if the disc was in good shape or not. I bought one and the price seemed too much for the condition it was in. It works fine but it seemed a little unfair to me. Whatever. You win some, you lose some.

and now back to your regularly scheduled tumblr-ing(?)…

New Vinyl: Thrice - Major/Minor
I’ve been checking the mail everyday waiting for this and I’m very excited that it’s finally here! I love how consistently good this band has been (and when I say good, I really mean GREAT). I’m anticipating giving this more listens, pouring through the lyrics and reading all the notes from the band…
FYI, the album is out on the 20th! So go buy it! :D View Larger
