"I'll Dream In Melody"

NEW CD: Thrice - The Alchemy Index Vol. I & II [2007]
I’m really trying to keep up with this! I got this back in November when I took my little brothers to Best Buy to get a video game or something and I was lured into the CD isle. This was the only Thrice album I didn’t have in my collection and the last one I needed. I don’t normally buy all my CDs full-priced, especially if I’m just trying to catch up on an artist’s discography but I have not yet seen this CD used and cheap anywhere. Sooooooo, I bought it!

I wouldn’t rank it in my favorites of their albums though. There’s something about the aggression on the heavier songs that feels a little forced but it’s still Thrice and it’s still better than most. View Larger

I’m BACK!

Hi everyone, I recently went on a road trip to San Francisco with my mom, stepsister and best friend. Aside from other things, I went to a few record stores. I’ll share them with you now.

1. Amoeba Music, San Francisco

Just like the one in Hollywood, it’s basically the biggest record store I’ve ever been too. Despite looking through the vinyls, I voted on getting like 6 used CDs instead of one vinyl. I hate spending too much money and I’d rather get more from it, you know what I mean? Anyways, I could have spent all day in there but not everyone shares my enthusiasm for sifting through rows and rows of music. I settled for the Jimmy Eat World, Get Up Kids, Radiohead, and Elliot Smith CDs I found.

2. Black Pancake Records, San Francisco

This place had a cool “underground” vibe to it but not the hugest selection. I think it may have just opened not long before. I didn’t get anything here and probably because I didn’t know a lot of it. These kind of places make me want to go home and do some research (and by research I mean listen to older music).

3. Rasputin Records, San Francisco (picture from Google)

This place was pretty big. It had about 5 floors I think and you had to take an elevator from the 2nd floor to go any higher. The 4th floor had the clearance CDs, I was looking for and I found quite a bit and so did my mother! It had a more classic record store appeal with the personalized recommendations found on different band labels. That was nice of them…

4. Warbler Records and Goods, Santa Barbara (picture from flickr)

I really liked this place. You could tell that they carried only music that they wanted to. However, once again I’m feeling stupid because I don’t know enough about this music. There’s all this stuff I know of but I don’t really know it. It’s OK though because it reminds me of music I need to look into more.

5. Just Play Music, Santa Barbara (can’t find a picture)

I can’t say I was too impressed with this place. All the used CDs were sealed and you couldn’t check if the disc was in good shape or not. I bought one and the price seemed too much for the condition it was in. It works fine but it seemed a little unfair to me. Whatever. You win some, you lose some.

and now back to your regularly scheduled tumblr-ing(?)…

My new CD.
The BestBuy in my area doesn’t have the “best” selection but I’ve been trying to work with what it has because I wouldn’t normally buy this CD to be honest, but now I’m branching out a little more and I’m super happy about that.
That was a ridiculous run-on sentence.
