Regardless of popular opinion, this is by far my favorite Saves the Day album. The way I see it, it’s got some of their best songs and I think it showed what a good songwriter Chris Conley is. Despite how different this album is compared to the rest of their catalog, to me it’s got the strongest melodies. I was about to list which songs were my favorite and I basically started to list all of them. Needless to say, it’s an all-time favorite. I’m not sure how much that means since I say it so much but wHaTeVeR!
When I made my end of the year list for 2012, I did not even realize all the good stuff potentially being released this year. OK, so here’s an updated list. 2013 is going to be a great year for music.
- The Dangerous Summer
I don’t think it’s possible that I won’t love their new album.
- Eisley
Shoot. I never even got The Valley but I probably will eventually. Regardless, I’m hoping for something good.
- Hellogoodbye
Would It Kill You? was such a leap forward for this band. I don’t think anyone saw that coming. I’m expecting good things.
- Jimmy Eat World
With 7 albums already under their belt, and most of them being awesome, there’s really no doubt this will be another solid release.
- Mansions
I’m excited to see where this band will go after Dig Up the Dead; I really loved that album.
- The National
First time I listened to this band I hated them then they eventually grew on me and I listened to High Violet on repeat for a while. I can now say I’m a fan and I’m looking forward to some new stuff.
- Paramore
The way I’ve seen it, this band has gotten better with each album so hopefully their new one will continue that streak.
- Relient K
This band has a knack for good, catchy pop-rock songs. I’m sure this will be some more of that.
- Saves the Day
I think this is another band with a solid discography but you either like them or you don’t. I like them.
- Transit
Possibly my favorite pop-punk band right now. Listen & Forgive took me a while to get into but once I did, I was hooked. Can’t imagine the new album not being great.
Honorable mentions: Balance & Composure, A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Justin Timberlake, Kevin Devine, Moving Mountains
There’s also some stuff I’m not even sure is going to be released this year but I’m hoping:
- Arcade Fire
- Brand New (always hoping)
- Into It. Over It.
- Manchester Orchestra
- Seahaven
- Tigers Jaw
I’ve been failing at keeping up with my new project! To be honest though, I haven’t woken up with any songs in my head lately. However, I did this morning! I’ve been listening to a lot of Into It. Over It. as well as Saves The Day and The Get Up Kids this past week. I’m trying to prep myself for the awesome sing-alongs that I will be a part of at the Where’s The Band? show that I’m attending this Sunday. This particular song is off the IIOI/Koji Split which I like very much.
Listen to it or buy it on bandcamp.
I’m sick of posting pictures of my new CDs so I’m just going to give you a list to catch up. And then I’ll stop buying so many and then be able to post them when I actually buy them. So, if you’re curious about what I’ve found since my last post, take a look.

Saves The Day - In My Waking Life
I’m all but certain that In Reverie is my favorite STD album…
- The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead [1986]
- Saves The Day - Stay What You Are [2001]
This one is supposed to be before Major/Minor. I guess I was a little excited about that one. We had a “family day” last Saturday and visited a Second Spin in Costa Mesa. Of course the ones I find in the two for $1 are ones I already had… Anyways, my mom wanted to get me something. We agreed on The Smiths and then I found a used copy of Stay What You Are. I’m pretty satisfied with my choices.

I got to go to Book Off last week while staying at my Dad’s and found a few cheap CDs. The first 5 are from Book Off and the SDRE album is from the swap meet we went to the next day. Only one of these were $5, one was $2 and the rest were $1. Talk about a good deal, right?
So, I looked up information for the split with The Years Gone By and Fireworks, and apparently it’s a Japanese only release. That’s pretty cool, I guess. It’s basically the On The Verge EP (The Years Gone By) and the We Are Everywhere EP (Fireworks) but plenty of pop-punk, sure enough.
I’m a sucker for cheap CDs… duh.
View Larger I entered to win this CD like a week or two ago and just got it in the mail yesterday! Sweet!
